VIRGIE, Ky. (WYMT) - A local church and other community members held a vigil in Pike County in memory of a father and his four children that lost their lives in a house fire three days ago.
Friends and family lit candles in honor of the family taken by the fire.
Virgie community members came together in remembrance, in prayer, and most of all in love.
?we wanted to show the family that we're not going to just tell them that we love them we're going to show them that we love them,? said Vergie Freewill Baptist Church Pastor, James Miracle.
They say the loss of William Wilfong and his four young children is still hard to believe .
?The whole community is crushed. It effected everybody,? said Miracle
And it is especially tough for family members who witnessed it firsthand.
?I saw that the house was on fire so I went and got my keys and moved my truck and it was so fully engulfed that there was no way I could get them out,? said family member, Glema Blair.
Many in the crowd responded to the home that night to fight the fire, even the pastor who organized the vigil
?I was first on the scene, so it is still fresh in my mind,? said Miracle
But as each candle is lit, the community begins to heal, and friends of the family say it's the least they can do.
?They're babies. They're the best. They deserve it,? said Jamie Damron.
To make sure the memory of their lives does not flicker out.
The children's mother, Tammy Tucker, was badly injured in the fire, and is listed in serious condition at UK Hospital.
Officials say the fire was likely started by an electric heater.
Two donation funds have been set up.
If you would like to help the family with funeral expenses you can go to the Community Trust Bank and U.S. Bank in Virgie.
