Guest Post: Mourning the loss of a Pet

RIP Misty, Love and miss you so much.

Losing a pet is an extremely hard process to face. For most of us, our pets are not just animals, they are family. Once our pet passes we are often left feeling lonely, like a piece of us is missing. It is hard to decide when and if you should get a new pet to provide love to. There is no right or wrong answer for this question.

My cat (Misty) recently passed away due to cancer. It was one of the hardest things I had to deal with. I had him for thirteen years, more than half of my life. Misty slept in my bed every night and followed me around the house. After he passed, it was extremely difficult not having him around.

I was debating on getting a new cat but wasn?t sure if I was able to provide as much love for another cat like I did for Misty. I also felt guilty, as if I was trying to replace him. I came across a blog online, ?Ways of Cats Blog,? which truly inspired me. Below is a quote from one of their blogs that helped me move forward.

?We can still miss a cat decades later, while loving many cats since. This is how we get confused; we still don?t feel ?over? our special girl or boy. We don?t love our cat any less because we want another cat. It is actually a profound expression of the love our cat once lavished on us. This is what leads to the loving impulse which makes us want to give another cat a home, and make them as happy as we made our other cat. We are perfectly capable of still missing, and mourning, our lost cat on one Track; and getting, and loving, a different cat on another Track.? ? Way of Cats blog

New Kittens- Bella and Raja

After reading this, I decided I needed to provide love and care for other pets like I did for Misty. I ended up getting two kittens; I fell in love with them right away. The kittens have made the grieving process easier; Misty would have wanted me to provide love for other pets like I did for him. Misty will always be in my heart ?a track? while the kittens are filling the open ?slots? in my heart. For those of you who recently lost a pet, your heart will know when and if you?re ready for a new one.
